Ash Wednesday

Last week we were learning about Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday was the first day of Lent, so for RE we learnt a lot about Lent. During RE our teacher gave us a task which was to make a Lenten Promise. She gave us a sheet of paper we had to color in and cut out. We had to write on bits of paper what do we do in lent. For example, for fasting some people gave up lollies amongst other sweets, foods, video games and much more.

I enjoyed coloring in the Lenten Promise sheet. I also enjoyed learning about Lent and I also enjoyed taking the time to color in every last bit on the sheet.

I found time tricky once again, this post was actually supposed to be due last week, but because we ran out of time our teacher gave us another week to finish this, amongst other things. I really want to finish all my tasks due from last week so I don't end up in chop chop class!

What are you giving up for Lent? What are you promising to do? What are you doing for almsgiving? Please tell me in the comments!

Handwriting

This week I was learning how to make connnections between what we read. I made a few connections in what I read, but not too many, only about 1-3 connections. My group had to do a Handwriting activity where we write 'Great Learners in Room 1 know what they are learning'. We had to write it ourselves first, then we get a friend or classmate to write the same sentence but in their handwriting. We also did a experiment where we got 7 different people to write the sentence 'There once was a very fluffy pussycat'.

The 7 of us all had different handwriting which was unqiue.
Some of us had messy handwriting, (like me) some of us also had very neat and basic handwriting while some had funny swirls.

I enjoyed doing the experiment and seeing how all of us have different and unqiue handwriting. I also enjoyed learning about handwriting and how it can help solve crimes.

I found that time was ticking and it once again was quite hard keeping track of time because we also had to do a second experiment. Other than that, everything else went quite smooth and decently.

What is your handwriting like? Is it simple and neat, or is it messy cursive? Please tell me in the comments!

Chinese New Year

This week I was learning how to summaraise and about Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Ox according to the Chinese Zodiac caldender. Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival, and the Lunar New Year. We had to read 4 books and summarise some facts into our posters. Some people were really quick and got time to make Chinese lanterns, but I didn't have a lot of time to make a Chinese lantern because I spent most of my time editing my Chinese New Year poster.

I enjoyed making the Chinese New Year poster, I also enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year and how to summarise, I also enjoyed reading about Chinese New Year.

I found it really hard to keep track of time and I wished I had more time to make my Chinese lantern. Next time I will try and work faster.

Do you know what your Chinese Zodiac animal is? Mine is the tiger! Tell me if you know what your Chinese Zodiac animal is in the comments if you know!

Art/Taking Photos

For art we were taking photos. We were thinking about how the light shone through the background of the native bush, tree and flowers. We took the photos outside of our classroom and in the Rerenga Awa in our school.

I enjoyed taking photos. I enjoyed taking the photos of the flowers the most.

I found taking the photos with my chromebook a bit tricky. I had to zoom in very close and my camera kept on getting out of focus, and the lighting was also a bit tricky, but in the end I got it done.

Here are my favorite!

Have you've ever taken photos before?

Treaty Of Waitangi Puzzle Piece

Yesterday my class was learning about the Treaty Of Waiatngi. Once we were done learning, we had some activities to do. One of the many activities were to make a puzzle piece with one fact written on it.

I enjoyed learning about the Treaty Of Waitangi and designing the puzzle piece. It took a bit of time but in the end I just generally enjoyed it.

I found designing it a bit tricky because I'm not the person that's always filled with ideas. I also found the timing a bit tricky beacause the puzzle piece took a good chunk out of my time but in the end I got it finished.

Here is my finished Puzzle Piece!

Kawa Of Care

Today i was making a 'Kawa of care'. A Kawa of care is a list of rules you follow to take care of your chromebook. We could choose what google program to use to make our Kawa of care. I personally think google drawings is best for doing this type of stuff, so i went with google drawings. Some people used google slides, google docs etc. instead of google drawings. But it's their choice so they went with that.

I enjoyed creating a Kawa of care for our activity. I personally enjoyed changing the fonts, color etc. I also enjoyed learning about the Kawa of care.

I found it a bit tricky to find the right images. Some of the images i searched up did not even match to what i searched up. It took a bit to find the right images, but other than that i didn't personally find anything hard.
